Happy Thursday! It’s July 6th and it’s a blister of day outside today! Temperature reads at 91, but it sure feels a lot warmer! Only another two months before things start cooling down a bit… I hope! Still, it’s a good day to be at the pool, so took my daughter for a little while so we could both cool off. Nice!

As the title of this blog suggests… with respect to the Peachtree Road Race… I came! I saw thousands of people! I participated! And… I finished just over 6 miles in under eighty minutes! Right at 13 minutes a mile. DONE! Thank goodness.

To be honest, I was very nervous about running the race. My last outdoor run was really, really tough. Tough enough that I thought about calling my wife to come get me (Feeling exhausted, dizzy and very over heated). And, it was only 4.5 miles. Fortunately, that scenario did not repeat itself. I took care and made sure I was jogging at a very leisurely pace along so that, along with plenty of trips to the water stations, seemed to make a big difference. Oh, the morning was a bit on the cooler side on July 4th, so that helped too! Did I mentioned they had turned on several of the fire hydrants along the way? That water felt very nice! Very nice!

I was lucky enough to have one of my sons along for the ride! Technically, two of my boys were supposed to come, but one had hurt his foot and knee during a dangerous “Hand stand maneuver” at his apartment. Go figure! Anyway, it was good to have someone share the ride and walk around with before and after the race.

So, I hear you asking, “What’s next?”. Good question! It’s July in Georgia and I don’t think I’m going to do anymore outdoor jogging until September. If I do, it’ll be because the temperature is very cool or there is a light rainstorm. All of my exercise will be limited to an indoor treadmill or hiking. My hikes are usually along trails close to water, so that helps keep the heat and humidity down just a bit. With that in mind, the Peachtree went well enough that I am already planning on doing it again next year. Also, and this is probably not super realistic, Im considering signing up for a half-marathon in the December or January timeframe. Guess I’ll just have to see how things are going when September rolls around. If it makes sense and I’m getting some good runs in…. I may just do it. Im sure there’ll be a lot more walking and I’ll be a slow finisher… but it would be awesome to do it!

Other than that, it’s the daily grind at home. Lots of time on chores and getting stuff done around the house. Also, with a 10 year old at home, have to make sure she’s being productive and getting her summer reading and schoolwork done! Never a dull moment! I’m really hoping to step up my writing this Fall and try to get a very rough draft of my novel done. One of my buddies has published four books, so he’s going to help me try to stay on course with things. We’ll see… talk about crossing off a Bucket List item… publishing a book would be incredible. I am putting the hourse WAY BEFORE the cart here, but we’ll see.

Take care for now!

Steve
