Howdy Folks! Today is Monday, September 20th and I’ll get started with a big ‘ole “My Goodness”! It’s been 10 days since my last post (If you’re counting), so my apologies for missing the one post per week goal! In my “Heart of hearts” I like to believe people aren’t too upset about the miss. 🙂 As far as I can tell, there are around 7 or 8 visitors a day to this site and if folks were really waiting for my next post, that number would probably be a bit higher with all the daily checking and re-checking. 🙂 If I DID disappoint you, please accept my sincere apology! Moving on…

It’s been a beautiful couple of days in Charlotte, although we could use a bit of rain in my neck of the woods. Fall is definitely here with high temperatures this week only in the mid-70’s. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again… I love the Fall! Can’t wait for the leaves to start changing colors!

Today’s post is focused on diet as I’ve recently made changes in that area am seeing positive results. I like to share positive things when I can vs the all too often “Pity party post” and this one just fits the bill! 🙂 Where to start… hmmm…

Late last Spring, during my annual physical, my primary care doctor said my cholesterol was running a bit high. He mentioned I needed to change my diet a bit and move away from “Snacking” (My particular vice! Love that crunchy and salty stuff!). He also mentioned he “Fasts” everyday for 18 hours…. of course… I had heard of “Fasting”, but it was more in observance of religious Holiday’s and things like that. What my doctor was talking about was more of a lifestyle change where you only eat between Noon and 6pm and NO SNACKING!

“What???”, I said! “Isn’t breakfast the most important meal of the day?”, I asked. The simple response was, “Nope. That’s a myth.” Nuff said. 🙂 So, thought I’d give it a try. I stopped buying potato chips, packaged meats (I miss salami sandwiches) and things like that and substituted more green stuff and frozen fruit stuff. 🙂 It is, and has been, a bit of a change, but not overly so. I definitely try to make sure that lunch and dinner have more vegetables on the plate, but I’m a bit more liberal on the weekends. Overall… I’m liking the results! I am down around 15lbs in two months.. and… if you read my last post where I talked about having a bit more energy… my energy level has seen some slight improvements. Not a bad thing at all!

If I needed a small reminder of how well this particular approach is working for me… I need only look at this past weekend. Our daughter went down to Atlanta to spend time with the grandparents, so the wife and I had three free days! WHoo-Pee! Right? I decided I wouldn’t worry about exercise and take the weekend off from my new diet routine. We were going to visit some wineries in the mountains and who doesn’t want to eat and drink whatever is available… right? 🙂 So, I went heavy on the chips and processed food and… all of a sudden… Sunday rolls around and I’m feeling lethargic and super fatigued. Also, Sunday afternoon in particular ended up being an awfully dizzy kind of day (Perhaps fatigue and dizzies are related??)… which just wasn’t any fun. After trying to figure out why the day was so tough… I just thought… “Man… I’ve been eating like crap. I bet that’s it.”. And maybe it is? That’s one of the problems with MS… there just aren’t many definitive reasons for why and when things happen. Can suck being a person with MS sometimes. 🙂

Anyway… I did a better job yesterday afternoon and last night with the eating and drinking. This morning I woke up feeling better and was able to exercise and get stuff done around the house. Even with that scant evidence, I’m going to take that as a lesson learned and not go overboard on the junk food! We’ll see if that makes a difference in the weeks and months to come! Fingers crossed!

I’ll stop there as I probably have other things I need to get to! Maybe you do as well? 🙂

Hope you have a great week! Can’t believe October is just around the corner… time is flying!
